The hidden Sicily

This tour has been designed for our more curious guests and has the goal to unveil them the mysterious and unknown side of our beautiful island.

An important role is played as usual by our GOURMET concept.

Here it is mixed with a friendly and homey ambiance and the interaction with the local population, which are at the very base of the idea of relational tourism.

Day 1: Arrival at the airport (only Catania) and transfer to the agritourism. Welcome cocktail. Tour of Catania’s historic center and relational tourism (according to the guest’s arrival time). Supper at a restaurant which offers a view of the Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano.

Day 2: Breakfast and departure for Syracuse. Tour at the archaeological park and historic center of Syracuse. Stroll at the market of Ortigia. Lunch. Departure for Taormina. Tour of the historic center and Greek Theater of Taormina. Return to Catania and supper at agritourism.

Day 3: Breakfast and departure to Alia. This lovely little town which dates back to the 7th century and the Arab domination, is located on the southwestern slope of the Madonie Massif and is known by its nickname “Città Giardino” (Garden City). Accommodation at the agritourism “Al Lago Verde”. Welcome cocktail or lunch (according to the guest’s arrival time). Mediterranean Cooking Class in agritourism under the supervision of a renowned chef and active participation of our guests in the making of the dishes. Supper at the agritourism with the dishes prepared during the cooking class.

Day 4: The entire day experience is based on the concept of GOURMET “La Via dei Formaggi” (The Way of Cheese). During 3 tastings in 3 dairies our guests will have an insight into various types of dairy products of the highest quality. On board of a tractor, our guests will drive through the fields of Marcatobianco, a lovely 12th century hamlet, discovering its wineries and livestock farms. The experience continues with a tasting of “pani cunzatu”, homemade bread drizzled with “zero food miles” olive oil and ingredients. The bread is served by a friendly local woman, according to our tradition. Tour at the historic center of Alia and its mysterious and majestic Gurfa Caves, which probably date back to the Bronze Age and Minoan civilization. “Schiticchiata” (happy hour) at the caves. Return to the agritourism.

Day 5: Breakfast and departure for Caccamo. Tour at the medieval historic center and the majestic castle. Light lunch. Departure for Palermo. Hotel accommodation. Free afternoon. Supper at a trattoria of Palermo.

Day 6: Breakfast. Tour at the historic center and the local outdoor markets of Ballarò, Vucciria and Capo,where our guests can taste the famous Street Food of Palermo. Departure to the close Monreale. A city of Norman heritage and declared by the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit at the majestic cathedral. Workshop regarding local mosaic and a ceramics held by high-level mosaicists and ceramists. Here our guests create artifacts that they are then free to keep as souvenirs. Return to Palermo and supper at a typical trattoria.

Day 7: Breakfast and departure for the “Capital of Wine”, Marsala. Accommodation at the hotel on the Stagnone Lagoon. Tasting of 3 wines in one of Marsala’s best wineries. Visit at the saltworks, where a worldwide known first-class sea salt is produced. Sunset boat tour on the Stagnone Lagoon, where our guests are welcomed by a flute of Sicilian white sparkling wine. Supper.

Day 8: Breakfast. Stroll for the historic center of Marsala and tour at the local fish market. Sensory experience in a nursery garden and tasting of typical local products. Mediterranean fish cooking class. Supper.

Day 9: Breakfast and departure for the airport.
